If you want to move to another EU country, you can do so through a simplified procedure designed exclusively for EU Long-Term Residents.
Luxembourg Citizenship
Luxembourg citizenship is the ultimate goal of many of Geostrata’s clients. Luxembourg citizenship is also EU citizenship, so you can live and work in 27 European countries with no restrictions. The Luxembourg passport is the most powerful on earth, tied at number 3 on the Passport Index (seven positions higher than the US passport). To become eligible to be naturalized as a Luxembourg citizen, you need to live in Luxembourg for 5 years.
Ways to Obtain Citizenship in Luxembourg
Option and Naturalization
Naturalization
To be eligible for naturalization in Luxembourg, you must generally reside in the country for at least five years, including one year of continuous residence immediately before applying, demonstrate financial stability, and comply with tax obligations. You must also show proficiency in the Luxembourgish language and complete the “Living Together in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg” course covering society and civic knowledge.
Option
Luxembourg also offers pathways to citizenship by option for individuals with a qualifying connection to the country, including marriage and ancestry. Spouses of Luxembourg citizens may apply after meeting specific conditions, including a minimum period of marriage and completion of language and civic requirements, even if residing abroad.
Individuals with Luxembourg ancestry may also be eligible to reclaim or acquire citizenship if they can demonstrate descent from a Luxembourg national and meet the applicable legal criteria. In both cases, applicants must typically demonstrate Luxembourgish language proficiency and complete the “Living Together in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg” course.
